Parliament sets up committee to plan Ol Kalou MP Kiaraho burial

The team will liaise with the family and oversee burial arrangements, with further details expected in due course.

A funeral committee led by Kinangop MP Zach Kwenya Thuku has been appointed to coordinate the send-off of Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, following his death on March 29, 2026, at Nairobi Hospital.

In a formal communication to the House on Sunday, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula announced his passing, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify Members of the National Assembly and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise” of the legislator, who passed away at around 1:20 am while undergoing treatment.

He described Kiaraho as a dedicated leader who served his constituents and Parliament with “diligence and commitment.”

The Speaker noted that Kiaraho was serving his third term as Ol Kalou MP, having first been elected during the 2013 General Election.

During his tenure, he was a member of the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.

“To coordinate a befitting send-off,” Wetang’ula announced the formation of a funeral preparation committee, which will be chaired by Thuku and deputised by Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau, alongside seven other Members of Parliament.

The team will liaise with the family and oversee burial arrangements, with further details expected in due course.

Kiaraho, born on October 2, 1963, attended Alliance High School before pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the University of Nairobi.

Before joining politics, he built a successful career as an architect and served as Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, establishing a strong background in infrastructure and built environment projects.

Wetang’ula extended condolences on behalf of Parliament, stating, “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Kiaraho.” He concluded by wishing the late legislator eternal rest.

Kiaraho becomes the second sitting MP to die in 2026, following the death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County on February 28, 2026.
