In a brief statement released on Wednesday, April 22, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) rejected the claims contained in the widely shared posters, saying they did not originate from the commission.

The Teachers Service Commission has moved to calm growing confusion among teachers and the public after viral social media posters claimed there were changes to hardship allowance classifications and secondary school subject combinations, firmly stating that the information circulating online is fake and misleading.

The clarification comes amid a wave of online posts that have caused concern within the education sector, prompting the commission to restate its official communication channels and warn stakeholders against relying on unverified sources.

In a brief statement released on Wednesday, April 22, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) rejected the claims contained in the widely shared posters, saying they did not originate from the commission.

"Reference is made to the two circulating posters regarding Hardship Allowance Reclassifications and Secondary School Subject Combinations. Please note that the information is not only misleading but fake," the statement read.

The commission stressed that teachers, school administrators, and members of the public should always confirm any information directly from its verified platforms to avoid falling victim to misinformation spreading online.

"You are always advised to rely on official communication relayed through the TSC official channels i.e. TSC Website(www.tsc.go.ke); Facebook (TSC KENYA) and X (@TSC_KE)," the statement added.

The latest clarification adds to a series of recent public notices where the commission has repeatedly dismissed false claims targeting teachers, recruitment processes, and salary matters.

Earlier in the week, TSC also denied another viral advert circulating online that falsely claimed the commission had announced the recruitment of teachers. The fake notice prompted concern among job seekers before being disowned by the commission.

In its response on Monday, April 20, the commission stated that the advert was not genuine and warned the public against engaging with such misleading posts.

"There are fake recruitment adverts purporting to be from Teachers Service Commission on recruitment. Please note that authentic job vacancies, recruitment guidelines, adverts and official information are only available on our official website, verified official communication channels and recognised national media outlets," TSC stated.

It further reminded the public that all legitimate job opportunities and official announcements are only shared through its verified platforms.

"Please refer to our website http://tsc.go.ke, Facebook page TSC KENYA and X TSC_KE for verified information," the statement added.

Days earlier, the commission had also addressed reports alleging delays in April salary payments for teachers, which it dismissed as false and misleading.

In an update on Sunday, April 19, TSC warned teachers and the public not to rely on circulating messages claiming that salaries would be delayed due to a payroll recall linked to a court order.

The commission clarified that the claims were fabricated and had no basis in its operations or payroll processing system.

"TSC advises teachers and the public to only rely on official TSC communication channels for verified information," the commission stated.

A fake poster had earlier circulated online suggesting that TSC had recalled the April payroll to comply with a court order involving Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) deductions. It further claimed that salaries, which were expected after the payroll closure on April 16, would be delayed to the following week.

In the latest update, the commission reaffirmed its position, urging stakeholders to remain alert and cautious as misinformation continues to spread on digital platforms.
