A driver in President William Ruto's motorcade has been arrested after a government vehicle struck and killed a foreign national along Ngong Road on Thursday.
According to a report the unnamed driver, a police officer, was later released on cash bail as he awaits court proceedings.
Police identified the victim as Edgar Charles Frederick, a 79-year-old British national. His body was moved to Lee Funeral Home, pending a postmortem examination.
Frederick was reportedly hit by a convoy while attempting to cross the road near Adams Arcade.
Videos posted on social media show a man in blue jeans and a light-coloured shirt lying bleeding on the road outside a busy shopping area.
Police spokesman Michael Muchiri told the BBC that Frederick had been visiting Kenya to see his sister and nephew who are residents of the country.
The victim's next of kin have been informed, and a post-mortem is likely to be conducted later on Friday.
A spokesperson for the UK High Commission said officials were aware of the reports and were seeking more information.
According to witnesses at the scene, the foreign national may have had a hearing impairment, which possibly prevented him from noticing the traffic officer’s warnings as they worked to clear the road.
