In Summary

Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, who officiated the inauguration of the latest bank in the town on Monday, November 17, 2025,  said the move underscores the region’s improving business environment and growing investor confidence.

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has officially opened a new branch in Garissa Town, marking its 92nd branch in Kenya and the 159th across East Africa.

Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, who officiated the inauguration of the latest bank in the town on Monday, November 17, 2025, said the move underscores the region’s improving business environment and growing investor confidence.

The new branch is located at Bayusuf Plaza next to Kenya Power offices along Sankuri Street.

The facility is expected to serve a broad customer base, including traders, SMEs, farmers, and individual clients, widening access to financial services in the county.

Garissa Branch Manager Hassan Abdille said the expansion of the bank reflects broader momentum driven by stability, improved infrastructure, and a renewed pro-investment agenda encouraging businesses to set up in Garissa County.

Governor Nathif welcomed DTB as the eighth commercial bank to set up operations in the county, framing the investment as a strong endorsement of Garissa’s economic trajectory.

“When a bank invests in your town, it shows money is moving and confidence is rising. Garissa is growing, and investors are responding,” the Governor said.

He encouraged DTB to prioritize Islamic finance products to meet the needs of the predominantly Muslim population and urged the bank to eventually expand its footprint to all six sub-counties.

Garissa Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane called for inclusive and transparent banking services.

“DTB must live up to the word ‘Trust.’ Be fair, be transparent, and be a real partner to the people of Garissa,” he said.

Prior to the launch, DTB’s leadership team — led by Director of Retail Banking George Otiende, Head of Branches William Amayo, and Garissa Branch Manager Hassan Abdille — paid a courtesy call to Governor Nathif at the county headquarters.

They discussed investment opportunities, financial inclusion, and areas of partnership with the county government.

Garissa County Executive Committee Member for Education Ebla Minhaj and Chief Officer for Trade Harun Mohamed attended the inauguration.
