Kenya Airways has warned passengers travelling to and from Mumbai of possible flight disruptions and delayed baggage due to operational challenges linked to regional airspace restrictions and adverse weather conditions.
In a customer advisory issued on March 8, the airline said the challenges were affecting flights operating between Nairobi and the Indian commercial hub, forcing adjustments that have affected normal operations.
“We wish to inform our customers that we are currently experiencing operational challenges affecting flights into and out of Mumbai,” the airline said in the notice.
According to the airline, the disruptions are being caused by restrictions in regional airspace as well as unfavorable weather conditions along flight routes.
“This is due to airspace restrictions as a result of ongoing regional conflict and adverse enroute weather,” the airline said.
The airline added that these conditions have required aircraft to carry additional fuel, a measure that has affected baggage handling capacity on some flights.
“The additional fuel required to meet these requirements has had a direct impact on our baggage uplift capability; some bags may be misconnected and/or delivered on a later flight,” the airline said.
As a result, some passengers may arrive at their destinations without their checked baggage, which could instead be transported on subsequent flights once operational constraints ease.
Kenya Airways said its operational teams in both Nairobi and Mumbai are working to ensure delayed luggage is reunited with passengers as quickly as possible.
“Our teams in Mumbai and Nairobi are doing everything possible to reconnect the delayed bags with you as quickly as possible,” the airline said.
The airline expressed regret over the disruption and apologized to passengers whose travel plans have been affected.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused for the disruption to your travel experience,” the airline said.
Passengers requiring assistance or updates regarding their baggage have been advised to contact the airline’s customer support channels.
“If you need further assistance, please contact our Customer Excellence Team,” the airline said, providing contact options including phone, WhatsApp and its support channel on X.
Kenya Airways said customers could reach the airline through the phone number +254 711 024 747, WhatsApp via +254 705 474 747, or through the handle @KQSupport on the social media platform X.
The advisory comes at a time when airlines globally have been navigating operational disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and shifting airspace restrictions, which sometimes force carriers to reroute flights or adjust fuel loads to maintain safety margins.
