President William Ruto has sent condolences to the families of former Cabinet minister Joseph Munyao and Makueni County Executive Committee Member Dr. Sonia Nzilani, praising their service and contributions to the country.

In a message of sympathy, President Ruto described Munyao,  a former Mbooni MP and long-serving public servant, as a dedicated leader whose work left a lasting impact on communities in Makueni and beyond.

Munyao served in key government roles and was widely recognised for his work with farmers, particularly efforts aimed at improving agricultural productivity and strengthening rural livelihoods.

“We are saddened by the passing of former Cabinet minister Joseph Munyao, who is also a former MP for Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County,” the President said.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Mbooni as we honour a man who served with steady dedication.”

Ruto noted that Munyao worked closely with farmers and consistently championed initiatives intended to uplift their economic well-being.

“His public service reflected a quiet resolve and a clear sense of duty that shaped many lives,” the President said.

He added that Munyao’s legacy would continue to be felt through the communities he supported and the national programmes he helped strengthen.

“May his loved ones find comfort in knowing his legacy endures in the communities he uplifted and the country he served with honour and dedication. May the Lord rest his soul in eternal peace,” he said.

President Ruto also mourned Dr. Sonia Nzilani, who served as Makueni’s CEC for Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture and Tourism.

Nzilani was recognised as one of the county’s influential voices in environmental conservation, sustainable development, and economic growth.

In his message, Ruto described Nzilani as a committed public servant whose work touched many lives in Makueni. He said her passion for environmental stewardship and her drive to promote trade and cultural development played a significant role in shaping county initiatives.

“Our sincere condolences to the family, friends and people of Makueni following the passing of Dr. Sonia Nzilani,” he said.

“Her commitment to public service and her passion for environmental conservation touched countless lives.”

Ruto noted that Nzilani inspired many through her dedication to building a greener and more prosperous future for the county.

“May her legacy encourage us all to work together for a greener and more prosperous future for Makueni and the nation. Rest in peace,” he added.
