David Athman Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has been officially declared the winner of the Malava Constituency by-election held on Thursday, narrowly defeating his closest rival.
Returning Officer Salim Abdalla Salim announced the results, confirming that Ndakwa secured 21,564 votes. He edged out Seth Panyako of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), who received 20,210 votes in a closely fought contest.
Wilberforce Indai of Kenya Moja finished third with 626 votes.
The by-election recorded a turnout of 43,675 voters out of 94,417 registered in the constituency, representing 46.2 percent participation across 198 polling stations.
All results were declared final after thorough counting and verification.
The contest was described as intense, with candidates campaigning vigorously to secure the seat. Voters in Malava turned out in large numbers to participate in a process closely monitored by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
This victory strengthens UDA’s representation in the National Assembly and comes amid preparations by political parties for the 2027 general elections.
Analysts say the results reflect shifting dynamics in the region, where competition between UDA and DAP-K has been growing over the past months.
The IEBC thanked voters and election officials for ensuring a transparent and orderly process, highlighting the dedication of staff across all polling stations.
“The Commission recognises and appreciates all election officials for their hard work and professionalism throughout the planning and conduct of this by-election,” it said.
