In the update released on Thursday, December 11, 2025, the department said most regions should expect rain that will grow stronger as the days progress.

Kenyans have been advised to prepare for increased rainfall over the weekend, with the Kenya Meteorological Department issuing an alert indicating that many parts of the country will receive showers from Friday, December 12 to Sunday, December 14.

In the update released on Thursday, December 11, 2025, the department said most regions should expect rain that will grow stronger as the days progress.
“Good news, rains are likely over several parts of the country into the weekend, as illustrated in the map.

Rainfall is expected across the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Northeastern, the Coastal region and the South-Eastern lowlands, with amounts gradually increasing as the forecast period progresses,” the statement reads.

The notice comes after several parts of the country have gone through dry spells in recent weeks. Farmers in the highlands and Rift Valley areas are hoping the expected showers will help improve soil conditions as they prepare for planting.

The weather agency also warned that some northern areas will experience strong winds that may affect outdoor activities and travel.

“Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over Turkana and Marsabit counties,” the statement reads.

The advisory means residents in the affected counties should avoid open water activities, secure loose items, and be cautious about dusty conditions caused by strong wind gusts.

Weather specialists explain that such wind patterns often occur during changing weather phases and can disrupt aviation, road movement and general outdoor safety.

The department also reminded Kenyans living in low-lying and flood-prone zones to remain alert in case of sudden water rise, reduced visibility and slippery roads as the rains intensify. It encouraged the public to follow updates from official channels and plan their movements with the changing weather in mind.
