In Summary

The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of widespread showers across both western and eastern parts of the country. Flood-prone zones, low-lying areas, and regions with saturated soils are at increased risk of flooding.

Heavy rains are forecast to affect multiple regions across Kenya from Sunday morning through Monday, with the highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, coastal areas, and south-eastern lowlands expected to bear the brunt of the downpours.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain vigilant as the country experiences continued unstable weather patterns.

The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of widespread showers across both western and eastern parts of the country. Flood-prone zones, low-lying areas, and regions with saturated soils are at increased risk of flooding.

According to the forecast, rainfall will touch highland areas on both sides of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, while the Lake Victoria Basin and parts of the Rift Valley will also see showers.

The south-eastern lowlands and coastal regions are similarly expected to receive rainfall, potentially disrupting transport and daily activities.

Weather authorities say the current pattern reflects ongoing unstable atmospheric conditions that are influencing the nation. The official forecast map accompanying the advisory shows a broad spread of precipitation, highlighting areas likely to experience persistent or heavy rainfall during the period.

“Residents in areas experiencing persistent or heavy rainfall are advised to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas,” the advisory emphasized.

Urban centres may face waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and reduced visibility as heavy showers persist. In rural regions, authorities warn of rising river levels, flash floods, and potential damage to crops and infrastructure. The Lake Victoria Basin, historically susceptible to flooding, is under close monitoring.

Parts of the Rift Valley, south-eastern lowlands, and coastal counties have been flagged for increased vigilance. Coastal rainfall could affect maritime activities and local transport, with officials encouraging communities to stay updated as conditions evolve.

The Meteorological Department has stressed the importance of continuous monitoring to track changes in rainfall intensity and coverage. Routine weather updates are aimed at enhancing preparedness and reducing risks associated with adverse conditions.

Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone zones, take necessary safety measures, and follow official communication channels for timely information. The forecast underscores the need for heightened caution, particularly in regions already experiencing saturated soils.
