The Governor said Ogeta’s appointment to the security docket was informed by his extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge accumulated over many years at different levels of engagement.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed two new advisors to the Executive Office of the Governor following the establishment of positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in accordance with the law.

In a statement on Thursday, the governor announced the appointment of Maurice Ogeta (Former PM, Raila Odinga’s bodyguard) as Advisor, Security Affairs, and Ken Ambani (Former CECM) as Advisor on Creative Arts.

Nassir said the selections were guided by experience, sectoral expertise, and the county’s development priorities.

“I have today made appointments in the Executive Office of the Governor following the establishment of positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in line with the provisions of the law,” he said.

Ogeta’s appointment to the security docket was informed by what the governor described as extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge accumulated over many years at different levels of engagement.

Nassir noted that Ogeta has served in local, regional and global capacities, giving him a broad understanding of security governance and coordination.

“Mr. Maurice Ogeta has been appointed to serve as Advisor, Security Affairs in the County Government of Mombasa,” the governor said.

“This appointment is informed by his many years of experience and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels.”

Nassir also referenced Ogeta’s past service to prominent national leadership, including his role working with the late Founding ODM Party Leader, Raila Odinga.

According to the governor, that background equips Ogeta with a strong grasp of public service and policy processes that will be valuable to the county administration.

Security remains a critical concern for Mombasa, a key coastal hub with significant tourism, trade and port activities.

The governor said strengthening advisory capacity in the sector would support coordination, preparedness and informed decision-making within the county government.

In the creative economy, Nassir appointed Ken Ambani as Advisor on Creative Arts, highlighting the sector’s potential to drive youth employment, cultural expression and economic growth.

“I have also appointed Ken Ambani as my Advisor on Creative Arts,” Nassir said.

“His wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience in the sector will be instrumental as we work to revive and grow the creative industry in Mombasa.”

The governor said the creative arts portfolio is central to the county’s broader economic agenda, particularly for artists and young people seeking opportunities in music, film, fashion and other creative fields.

He added that Ambani’s experience would help shape policies and initiatives aimed at unlocking the sector’s value.

“These appointments reflect our commitment to building a capable executive team that can support service delivery and economic transformation,” Nassir said, adding that the advisors would work within established legal and institutional frameworks.

The appointments take effect immediately, as the county government continues to operationalise newly created positions to support its governance and development agenda.
