Party leaders, led by Secretary General Richard Ole Kenta, spoke during the official opening of the party’s new county offices in Kisii County on Friday.

The Jubilee Party has reiterated that Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang'i remains its flagbearer for the 2027 General Election and says the United Opposition candidate should be selected through a scientific formula.

Party leaders, led by Secretary General Richard Ole Kenta, spoke during the official opening of the party’s new county offices in Kisii County on Friday.

They called for respect for Matiang’i amid heightened political activity in the country.

“We want our partners to respect Matiang’i. Leadership is not like going to the market to buy bananas or candy,” Ole Kenta said.

“At a time when Kenya is going through governance challenges, we need a leader who will ensure looted public funds are returned, perpetrators are prosecuted, and our education and health sectors are fixed.”

The Jubilee SG also reiterated the call for the United Opposition candidate to be chosen through a formula.

“For us to decide who our running mate is, we must use a scientific formula.”

Matiang’i had warned during a previous forum that any “boardroom deals” over the United Opposition presidential candidate could cause the coalition to break up before the polls.

During the opening of the party’s offices, leaders said the new office is part of Jubilee’s nationwide grassroots reorganisation as it prepares for the 2027 General Election.

They used the opportunity to criticise the current administration over the high cost of living, unemployment, and what they termed “failed economic policies,” saying Kenyans deserve experienced leadership and practical solutions.

They reaffirmed support for Dr Fred Matiang’i as their preferred presidential candidate for 2027, describing him as a tested leader capable of restoring discipline in government and stabilising the economy.

“The Jubilee Party, led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has only one presidential aspirant — Fred Matiang’i. In Nairobi, we have not signed any other certificate for any other position except that of the presidential candidate,” Jubilee Deputy Secretary General Zack Kinuthia said.

“Let us unite behind Matiang’i in next year’s election.”

Earlier in the week, Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i gained a major political endorsement as the Party of National Unity confirmed its support for his 2027 presidential ambitions.

The agreement, which brings together PNU and Jubilee Party, is being seen as a strategic move that could reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the next general election.

The announcement was made by PNU Secretary General Frank Walukwe, who spoke alongside Jubilee officials, including Matiang’i, Jeremiah Kioni, and PNU leader Peter Munya.

“Recognising his character, leadership credentials, and proven track record of transformative public service, the PNU Party has resolved that it shall not field a presidential candidate and will instead support Dr Matiang’i’s candidature,” Walukwe said.

Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta described the alliance as the start of broader collaboration with other opposition parties.

“The parties commit to working jointly with other like-minded parties within the Opposition to develop a comprehensive working framework, which will be formally adopted and signed at an appropriate time,” he said.
