The Communication Authority of Kenya has opened applications for a three-month student attachment programme across multiple departments, offering hands-on experience in ICT regulation and digital transformation.
The initiative targets ongoing university students in diverse fields, aiming to equip them with practical skills while supporting Kenya’s growing communications sector and innovation landscape ahead of the April 8 deadline.
“Ready to shape Kenya’s digital future?” the authority said in its announcement, positioning the initiative as an opportunity for students to engage directly with policy and industry practice.
The authority described itself as “the regulatory agency for the ICT industry in Kenya with responsibilities in telecommunications, cyber security, e-commerce, broadcasting, multimedia, and postal/courier services.”
It added that it is also tasked with managing numbering and frequency spectrum resources, administering the Universal Service Fund, and safeguarding the interests of users of ICT services.
The attachment programme will run for three months and is open to students pursuing a wide range of academic disciplines aligned with the authority’s departments.
Applicants can choose from several departments, including Human Resources and Administration, Corporate Communications, Finance and Accounts, and Supply Chain Management.
Other technical areas include Frequency and Spectrum Management, Compliance Enforcement, Monitoring, Inspection and Regional Coordination, and Postal and Telecommunications Licensing.
The authority is also offering placements in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Consumer Protection and Advocacy, Public Education and Awareness, and Standards and Type Approval.
Further opportunities are available in the Universal Service Fund, Research, Planning and Quality Management, Competition Management, and Legal Services.
Each department requires applicants to be studying relevant fields such as engineering, ICT, business administration, communications, law, economics, or social sciences.
“Applicants must be ongoing students in a recognised university,” the authority stated.
It added that “areas of study should align with the department applied for,” and that candidates should demonstrate “a keen interest in gaining practical experience in a dynamic regulatory environment.”
The authority said the programme aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application by exposing students to real-world challenges and professional environments.
“Gain hands-on experience in a leading regulatory authority in Kenya,” the notice said.
Participants will also “work alongside experienced professionals in your field” and “enhance your skills and knowledge in a real-world setting.”
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to support the development of Kenya’s information and communications sector by building a skilled workforce.
“Join and be a part of the mission to facilitate communications sector in Kenya development of the information,” the authority said, highlighting its role in advancing the country’s digital ecosystem.
Interested candidates are required to submit their applications online through a designated link provided by the authority.
Applicants must attach “a one-page CV, a cover letter specifying the department of interest, and a letter from the institution confirming current enrollment and support for the attachment.”
The deadline for applications has been set for April 8, 2026.
“Only shortlisted candidates shall be contacted for interviews,” the authority said.
The Communications Authority emphasised its commitment to inclusivity, stating that it is “an equal opportunity employer and all qualified Kenyans, including persons living with disabilities and those from marginalised communities encouraged to apply.”
It also warned that “canvassing in any form or failure to attach any of the stipulated documents shall lead to automatic disqualification.”
The programme is expected to attract a large number of applicants seeking experience in Kenya’s rapidly evolving ICT sector, which continues to play a key role in economic growth and digital transformation.
