The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has affirmed its preparedness for Thursday’s Kasipul Constituency by-election, with Commission Chairman Erastus Ethekon assuring residents of a peaceful, orderly and credible poll.
Speaking on Wednesday after assessing security and logistical arrangements, Ethekon said security agencies had deployed officers across all 22 electoral areas to guarantee safety throughout the voting process.
He also held a security briefing with the County Security Team in Kosele town, the Rachuonyo South Sub-County headquarters, where he commended officers for maintaining peace during the campaign period.
“I commend the team for their efforts in maintaining peace during the campaign period and urge continued cooperation and support, especially on election day,” he said.
The chairman also met Polling Officers at Agoro Sare High School, which will serve as the Constituency Tallying Centre.
He encouraged the officials to execute their mandates professionally, noting that they had undergone thorough training in election management.
“I urged them to carry out their duties diligently, noting that they have been thoroughly trained by the Commission’s experts,” he said.
Ethekon later joined the Returning Officer for the Kasipul by-election, Rebecca Abwaku, in overseeing the opening of ballot paper pallets.
The exercise was attended by chief agents of political parties, accredited observers and members of the media.
According to the Commission, all stakeholders verified the integrity of the ballot materials, confirmed correct serial numbers for each polling station and ensured the accuracy of candidate details on the ballot papers.
“The exercise was witnessed by chief agents of participating political parties, accredited observers, and the media. All parties verified the integrity of the pallets,” Ethekon noted.
The IEBC confirmed that the dispatch of election materials, polling officials and security personnel to the respective polling stations was underway.
Upon arrival, the teams are expected to set up and prepare stations ahead of the 6 am opening of polling on Thursday.
Ethekon reiterated the Commission’s commitment to a transparent process, urging voters to turn out and exercise their democratic right.
“The Commission remains committed to delivering free, fair, and credible elections. Your Vote, Your Future,” he said.
Security agencies and the electoral body have assured residents of a smooth process as preparations enter the final phase.
