Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i emerged as the closest challenger with 13 percent support, followed by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 12 percent.

President William Ruto remains the most popular choice for the presidency if elections were held today, according to a new end-of-year opinion poll released by research firm Infotrak.

The survey, made public on Sunday, December 28, shows that 28 percent of respondents would support Ruto for a second term, placing him ahead of all other potential contenders.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i emerged as the closest challenger with 13 percent support, followed by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 12 percent.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino ranked fourth with seven percent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received five percent backing.

People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua and former Chief Justice David Maraga both garnered two percent of the vote, placing them joint at the bottom among the listed candidates.

Despite these rankings, the poll indicates a significant portion of voters remains undecided.

Twenty-five percent of respondents said they had not yet made up their minds, while four percent declined to reveal their preference.

The survey also explored Kenyans’ alignment with political formations.

Results show that 32 percent of respondents feel closest to the broad-based government under Ruto’s leadership.

Meanwhile, 22 percent identified with the United Opposition coalition led by Gachagua, Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa. Another 17 percent expressed support for the Kenya Moja alliance, associated with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and MPs Babu Owino, Gathoni Wamuchomba, and Ndindi Nyoro.

However, nearly a third of respondents (29 percent) said they do not feel affiliated with any of the three political groupings.

On party popularity, the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) remains the most preferred, attracting 23 percent support nationally, followed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 19 percent.

The newly launched Democracy for Citizens Party led by Gachagua drew six percent support, Jubilee Party five percent, and Wiper Patriotic Front four percent.

Infotrak said the survey was conducted between December 19 and 20, 2025. A total of 1,000 respondents were interviewed, representing all 47 counties and Kenya’s eight regions.
