According to the forecast, weather conditions are expected to shift as the week progresses, with much of the country experiencing dry and sunny conditions.

Kenya will experience a mix of rainfall, thunderstorms, heat and cool nights between December 30, 2025 and January 5, 2026, according to the latest weekly weather forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department.

In the latest weather update released on Tuesday, the department said rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country at the beginning of the week before giving way to predominantly sunny and dry conditions across most regions.

“Rains are expected to continue over a few areas at the beginning of the week,” the department said, noting that affected regions include the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of north-western and north-eastern Kenya, the Coastal region and the south-eastern lowlands.

The Met Department cautioned that some areas may experience isolated thunderstorms and heavy downpours during this period.

“Isolated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall may occur in these areas,” the statement said, urging residents in flood-prone zones to remain vigilant.

According to the forecast, weather conditions are expected to shift as the week progresses, with much of the country experiencing dry and sunny conditions.

“Conditions are then expected to transition to predominantly sunny and dry conditions across much of the country for the remainder of the week,” the department said.

Alongside the changing rainfall patterns, Kenyans in several regions should brace for high daytime temperatures.

The department said daytime, or maximum, temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius are expected in the Coast, north-eastern and north-western Kenya, as well as parts of the south-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and western Kenya.

“Daytime (maximum) temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the forecast noted, adding that similar conditions will be felt in parts of the Rift Valley and western regions.

While daytime heat will dominate in many areas, the Met Department said some regions will experience significantly cooler nights.

“Night-time (minimum) temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the statement said.

The department advised residents to take appropriate precautions, including staying hydrated in hot areas and keeping warm in regions expected to experience cold nights, as weather conditions fluctuate during the holiday and early New Year period.
