According to the agency, statements have already been taken from several witnesses and individuals under investigation, among them top government officials and representatives of One Petroleum Limited. Executives from Ory Energy Limited have also been called in to record their statements as part of efforts to piece together the circumstances surrounding the deal.

Detectives have stepped up investigations into the controversial importation of a fuel cargo linked to One Petroleum Limited, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirming that more senior officials and company executives are being questioned as the probe gathers pace.

According to the agency on Saturday, statements have already been taken from several witnesses and individuals under investigation, among them top government officials and representatives of One Petroleum Limited. Executives from Ory Energy Limited have also been called in to record their statements as part of efforts to piece together the circumstances surrounding the deal.

The DCI said it is working with various state agencies and has also engaged foreign investigative bodies through the Mutual Legal Assistance programme to ensure all aspects of the transaction are thoroughly examined.

“We are doing everything possible to deal with this matter expeditiously and will forward the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in due course,” the statement read.

The agency maintained that anyone found to have played a role in any wrongdoing will face legal action, stressing that position or status will not offer protection, including for company directors involved in the transaction.

It also clarified that leaving office does not free any suspect from responsibility, warning those under investigation against attempting to evade the process.

“Resignation from office does not in way exonerate or absolve the suspects and persons of interest from criminal culpability,” the DCI stated, while urging full cooperation with investigators.

Further, the agency reassured the public that the process is being handled with integrity, openness, and the urgency it requires, noting that the government remains firm on fighting corruption and protecting public funds.

The DCI said it will continue to update the public as new details emerge from the ongoing investigations.
