According to the notice, the convention will follow a planned order of events. The meeting will begin with prayers followed by the reading of the formal notice that convenes the session before delegates adopt the agenda.

The Orange Democratic Movement has announced plans to hold a Special Delegates Convention later this month in Nairobi where party officials and representatives from across the country will meet to discuss leadership issues and key constitutional matters. The meeting is expected to bring together senior leaders and delegates drawn from various party organs as the party reviews internal decisions and outlines its direction.

In a notice issued on March 5, 2026, ODM Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo confirmed that the gathering will take place on March 27 in Nairobi County and will begin at 9:00 a.m.

“Please take notice that, pursuant to Articles 47 and 49, as read together with Articles 51(3)(d) and 21(1)(i) of the Orange Democratic Movement Party Constitution, a Special Delegates Convention shall be held on Friday 27th March 2026, in Nairobi County, commencing at 9:00 am,” the notice states.

According to the communication, the convention will draw participation from a wide range of leaders within the party structure.

Among those expected to attend are members of the National Executive Committee, the party’s Parliamentary Group, and governors together with their deputies who were elected under the ODM ticket.

The meeting will also include chairpersons from Branch Executive Committees and County Coordinating Committees across the country.

Leaders of County Assemblies aligned with the party are also scheduled to participate. These include both Majority and Minority leaders from ODM controlled assemblies.

National officials from several party leagues will also attend the convention. Delegates will include representatives from the ODM Youth League, Women League, and Disability League.

The notice further indicates that members serving in the party’s standing committees will be part of the meeting alongside special representatives selected from each county.

These representatives include one delegate from marginalized groups in every county as well as nominated participants linked to ODM elected leaders such as Members of the National Assembly, Senators, Governors and County Woman Representatives.

Delegates representing different party branches will also take part in the gathering. Their numbers will be determined by the National Executive Committee.

According to the notice, the convention will follow a planned order of events. The meeting will begin with prayers followed by the reading of the formal notice that convenes the session before delegates adopt the agenda.

Among the key matters on the agenda is the “ratification of the National Governing Council Resolution on Party Leadership.”

Delegates will also consider another internal matter listed as taking note of “the National Executive Committee Resolution on Article 87 of the Party Constitution.”

The convention will also feature speeches from various party officials before the meeting concludes with a keynote address by the ODM party leader.

The gathering is expected to provide an opportunity for the party to review decisions taken by its governing organs and discuss leadership questions that affect the future of the party.

The meeting comes at a time when ODM has been facing internal disagreements following the death of its longtime leader Raila Odinga in October 2025.

Since his passing, the party has experienced divisions between different factions within its leadership.

One group is led by party leader Oburu Oginga and supports a broad based political arrangement, while another faction led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has opposed cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance party.

The two sides have been organizing separate political rallies across the country as each group mobilizes support for its position.

Sifuna’s faction has been holding events under the slogan “Linda Wananchi” while supporters aligned with Oburu have been using the slogan “Linda Ground.”

The differences between the two sides have highlighted ongoing tensions inside the party as leaders seek to maintain unity while also determining how ODM should relate with the national government.

With delegates expected to travel from across the country, the upcoming convention is likely to serve as an important moment for the party to discuss leadership questions and make decisions about its future direction.
