The coordinated raid, led by police officers from the Chemelil Police Post in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers, targeted illegal brewers operating within Nyagoma Location in Miwani Division of Muhoroni Sub-county.

A multi-agency security team has intensified the fight against illicit alcohol in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, seizing and destroying more than 3,000 litres of Kangara during a major operation in Wagunga Village, Kamswa Sub-location, on October 26, 2025.

The coordinated raid, led by police officers from the Chemelil Police Post in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers, targeted illegal brewers operating within Nyagoma Location in Miwani Division of Muhoroni Sub-county.

The officers not only destroyed the illicit brew but also dismantled several distilling apparatus used in the production of the unregulated alcohol.

According to the statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the successful operation marks another significant step in the ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit brews and related illegal activities that continue to endanger public health and safety.

“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illicit brews and other illegal activities that endanger public health and safety,” the statement read in part.

The NPS noted that such operations are part of a broader government initiative to eliminate the production, sale, and consumption of illegal alcohol, which has been linked to multiple health crises, including cases of blindness, poisoning, and death in various parts of the country.

Authorities say the raids are intended not only to seize illegal substances but also to dismantle the networks and infrastructure that sustain the illicit alcohol trade.

The police further appealed to members of the public to cooperate by providing information on individuals involved in the illegal trade.

“Similar operations will continue across the county as part of ongoing efforts to curb the production, sale, and consumption of illicit alcohol,” the statement added.

The operation comes at a time when Kenyan authorities are ramping up efforts across the country to curb both illicit alcohol production and drug trafficking.

Just recently, a massive shipment of over one ton of methamphetamine worth around Sh8.2 billion was intercepted off the coast of Mombasa, underlining the growing scale of the narcotics threat.
