KRA confirms man’s death in incident at Kisumu's Lake Basin Mall

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed the death of a middle-aged man who died after jumping from the second floor of its offices at the Lake Basin Mall in Kisumu on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Shared Services, KRA expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and friends.

The authority described the event as a tragedy that has deeply saddened its staff and management.

“KRA wishes to confirm that an unfortunate incident occurred today, Thursday, 30th October 2025, at the KRA offices located at the Lake Basin Mall in Kisumu. A middle-aged man jumped from the second floor of the building, sustained serious injuries and succumbed,” the statement read.

“KRA deeply regrets this incident and conveys heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the authority added.

The revenue agency said the matter has been formally reported to the relevant authorities, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

It assured the public that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the probe is carried out thoroughly and transparently.

“The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, and investigations are currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. KRA is fully cooperating with law enforcement officers to facilitate the ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

While the cause of the tragedy remains unclear, officials have urged the public to remain calm as investigators work to piece together the events that led to the fatal fall.

The Kenya Revenue Authority also took the opportunity to remind taxpayers and members of the public to use official communication channels to report any incidents, concerns, or suspicious activities.

“KRA further wishes to remind all taxpayers and members of the public that any incidents, concerns, or suspicious activities can be reported through the nearest Tax Service Office, or by calling 0711099999, or sending information via the KRA iWhistle platform,” the statement advised.

The authority reiterated its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and public safety, emphasizing that it continues to uphold the highest standards in its operations across the country.
