Baringo County is set to host its highly anticipated Kimalel Goat Auction and Cultural Festival from December 20 to 22, 2025, with a packed program of sports, culture, and trade activities.

Governor Benjamin Cheboi assured residents and visitors that preparations are complete for this year’s three-day event, which promises more activities than ever before.

Speaking in Kimalel, Marigat Sub County, Cheboi highlighted that the festival will kick off with a 1.5-kilometer wheelchair race, followed by a 2-kilometer run for participants aged 50 and above.

“This is a way of appreciating those who are abled differently and the elderly in the society who will be rewarded with some reasonable prizes,” he said.

The first day will also feature a water sports competition at Lake Baringo using traditional “Kaldich” boats, alongside a motorsport display, concluding with a youth night extravaganza at Kimalel grounds.

On the second day, residents and visitors will gather for an interdenominational service in the morning, setting the stage for a cultural festival and trade fair. Cheboi said the exhibitions will provide a platform to showcase Baringo’s investment opportunities and local products.

The festival will culminate with the renowned goat auction, presided over by President William Ruto. Cheboi encouraged leaders, locals, and visitors to support farmers by purchasing naturally salted goats for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“We have integrated the physical selling of goats with an online platform called E-farmer to gather for the needs of all those who are unable to attend the event because once they order for the goats it will be delivered up to their doorstep,” he explained.

The governor also noted that the festival is an opportunity to attract both local and international tourists to experience Baringo’s scenic landscapes and wildlife, as the county moves toward recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark destination.

He invited people from all walks of life to visit and enjoy the diversity the county has to offer.
