KenGen confirmed that electricity supply remains stable, noting that “All other turbines at the facility remain fully operational.” The company emphasized that the incident was isolated and did not affect the wider operations of the wind farm.

KenGen has confirmed that an isolated incident occurred at its Ngong Wind Power Facility during routine maintenance activities, involving one wind turbine that was already out of service. The company said the event did not result in any injuries or disruption to electricity supply and has launched an investigation to determine the cause and assess the damage.

In a statement released on Tuesday, KenGen assured the public that all workers at the site were safe following the incident. “All personnel on site were safely accounted for following the incident, aided by established safety protocols and the prompt response of the onsite emergency team,” the statement read.

The company explained that the affected turbine has a capacity of 0.85 megawatts and was not operational at the time of the incident. KenGen stressed that the situation did not pose any threat to power generation or supply to the national grid.

KenGen confirmed that electricity supply remains stable, noting that “All other turbines at the facility remain fully operational.” The company emphasized that the incident was isolated and did not affect the wider operations of the wind farm.

Reaffirming its focus on safety, KenGen said safety remains a core value across all its operations. The company’s internal safety team is working closely with relevant safety and regulatory authorities to carry out a detailed investigation.

According to the statement, the investigation will focus on identifying the cause of the incident, evaluating the extent of damage to the turbine, and putting in place corrective and preventive measures to prevent similar events in the future.

“We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities and will provide further updates as more information becomes available,” KenGen added.

The Ngong Wind Power Facility plays an important role in Kenya’s renewable energy mix, supplying clean power to the national grid. The site is home to several wind turbines that generate electricity using wind energy, supporting the country’s efforts to expand sustainable power sources and lower carbon emissions.

KenGen said its rapid response to the incident demonstrated strong preparedness and strict adherence to safety procedures. Onsite emergency teams responded quickly, ensuring that all personnel were protected and that potential risks were contained.

The company encouraged members of the public and stakeholders to direct any media inquiries to its communications team. Contact details were provided, including Frank D. Ochieng, who can be reached on 0721816896 or through the email addresses [email protected] and [email protected].

KenGen said the statement was meant to reassure the public and electricity consumers that power supply remains secure despite the incident. It also highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to safety and reliable operations across its renewable energy projects.

The findings of the investigation are expected to clarify what led to the incident and guide future safety improvements. As KenGen continues to support Kenya’s renewable energy goals, the company said protecting workers and maintaining stable power supply remain top priorities.
