Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations Anti-Narcotics Unit (DCI ANU), in collaboration with the Kenya Police, NACADA, and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), has arrested multiple suspects in Mombasa, Nairobi, and Nyanza for drug trafficking and possession of uncustomed or prohibited goods.
According to the statement by DCI on Friday, the seized narcotics, including heroin and other suspected drugs, were valued at approximately Sh4.6 million.
Authorities confirmed that all suspects are in custody pending court arraignment as operations continue to clamp down on the illicit trade.
In Mombasa, a multi-agency team raided a rental house in Corner Mpya Estate, Likoni, arresting three individuals—Johnson Onderi, Felista Ratemo, and Margret Wanjiku—found distilling and packaging bottles of a substance labeled as SMART Vodka.
“Other items, including KRA stickers and distilling apparatus, were also recovered,” the DCI noted.
The same team later arrested Charles Onderi and Hezron Migiro in the Shika Adabu area with a brown granular substance suspected to be heroin and a whitish granular narcotic, all valued at around Sh 4.6 million.
Other suspects—Mark Kombo, David Mwangi, and Millicent Bosibori—were apprehended for possession of uncustomed goods, while Tabitha Wangare Mwangangi was arrested for obstructing police officers during the operation.
In the Nyanza region, DCI ANU officers conducted an intelligence-led operation after receiving credible information about drug trafficking on a Guardian Angel Bus Company vehicle, registration KDN 389J.
The bus was stopped at Awasi along the Kisumu–Kericho Highway, where officers recovered three bales of green plant material and two bales of dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The suspect, Daniel Ondiege, was arrested and is being held in custody pending further legal action after the exhibits were weighed and sampled.
In Nairobi, a joint operation by DCI ANU Headquarters and TOCU targeted a rented house in Mwiki, Kasarani, belonging to George Mathenge Kamau.
Officers recovered a creamish substance suspected to be narcotics, assorted packaging materials, 43 non-serviceable mobile phones, four iPads, Sh13,800 in cash, and a computer.
The search extended to the nearby dumpsite, where additional suspected drugs and mobile devices were recovered. Kamau, along with Josephat Mwangi Njenga and Samwel Nyota Wambui, were arrested and escorted to Muthaiga Police Station.
“The DCI remains steadfast in the war against the sale, distribution, and consumption of illicit drugs and goods and sends a strong warning to all involved in the trade that their days are numbered,” authorities stated, urging the public to report suspicious activity via the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000 under the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative.
